Cape Town — A petrol attendant has been hailed as a hero after he rescued passengers from a taxi that caught aflame.
The attendant’s heroics were captured on video and uploaded to social media where one viewer credited him with not only “saving the lives of passengers but the entire petrol station and the surrounding businesses”.
The video — which has accumulated nearly half a million views — shows the taxi igniting into flames that seemed to originate from under the vehicle.
A few passengers manage to escape through a window at the back of the taxi, but the others struggled to escape from the passenger doors until the attendant rushed over to help them, braving the fires.
His efforts did not end there. He speedily ran off and returned with a fire extinguisher to put the fire out and prevent further damage.
