Cape Town – Heavy rains in Cape Town and parts of the Eastern Cape caused widespread destruction, leaving several areas without electricity on Saturday.
In Gordon’s Bay, high tide swept away cars, causing panic among residents. Torrential rains led to overflowing rivers and incidents of vehicles being carried away by freak waves.

Near-drowning incidents were reported in Sandy Bay and Three Anchor Bay, IOL reported.
In Gqeberha, caravans and structures at Mangolds Pool Resort were compromised. Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities in both provinces.
The City of Cape Town mentioned that vandalism and theft contributed to the power outage affecting multiple areas.

Restoration efforts are underway, but high service request volumes are causing delays.
