Cape Town – A second cold front has caused extensive damage in parts of the Western Cape, leading to floods, uprooted trees, power outages, and disrupted traffic.

Although there have been no reported fatalities, thousands of people have been affected, with over 1 000 displaced in Rawsonville alone, Times Live reported on Thursday.
Local authorities are urging residents to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel due to the ongoing severe weather conditions.
Several roads, including the Franschhoek Pass, have been closed due to rockfalls and damage, the report said.

According to News24, the City of Cape Town’s disaster risk management teams are working to address the situation by implementing flood alleviation measures, particularly in areas where stormwater systems were blocked.
“There have been mudslides in the Oudeskip area in Hangberg, Hout Bay. The Eerste River/Kuilsriver has burst its banks, causing flooding of some properties in Zandvlei, Macassar.
“Informal settlements have been affected in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village, Old Crossroads and Schaapkraal areas. The Mosselbank River burst its banks, affecting residents in Philadelphia and Klipheuwel,” the report quoted the City’s disaster risk management spokesperson Charlotte Powell as saying.

Informal settlements in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village, Old Crossroads, and Schaapkraal were also affected. Additionally, the Mosselbank River flooded, impacting residents in Philadelphia and Klipheuwel. The Keyser River was another area of concern as it had burst its banks.
The City’s Roads Infrastructure and Management Services assisted in diverting water and addressing the flooding of surrounding properties.
