Cape Town – A dedicated teacher has used the Back a Buddy to help raise over R 38 000 for an 11-year-old learner from Khayelitsha, Siyabonga (Siya) Lusaseni.
Megan Culligan, who is Siya’s former teacher started the Back a Buddy cause for him in December 2022, setting a fundraising target of R55 289 in order for the young pupil to continue his education at Pinelands North Primary School (PNPS).
Thus far, she has been able to raise, at the time of writing, R38 822.
Siya has been a pupil at PNPS since he started grade 1 in 2018.
Culligan showed much admiration for her former pupil.
“I have known and taught Siya since 2018. I was a teacher at PNPS and over the years I have had the privilege of seeing Siya grow and thrive in this environment.
“He is a beautiful little boy with a heart of gold. He loves school and learning, and has built many wonderful relationships with his teachers and peers over the years. He is full of energy, love and enjoys sports and being active,” she wrote.
Mulligan added that Siya is in need of the funds in order to remain at his current primary school.
“In order for Siya to continue with his education at PNPS, he is in need of financial assistance. Reaching our target will be able to cover the following costs for the year: Grade 6 school fees, aftercare costs, tutoring costs and the purchase of a chrome book which is required from grade 6 onwards.
“Through a solid education, all things can be made possible and many doors can be opened. We are committed to ensuring that Siya continues with his education and with your support we can make this possible,” she added.
