Cape Town – Usually, one would associate horrific scenes at the beach with a shark, but on this occasion, it was a baby seal that terrorised swimmers at Clifton 4th Beach, attacking a boy and a woman, and leaving bite marks on a man who assisted before being flung back into the ocean.
The words “get out of the water” were shouted by onlookers which, perhaps to the surprise of many swimming in the ocean, was because of a seal and not a shark – a baby seal at that.
The footage of such a rare incident was captured and uploaded to Twitter by Dylan Moore. The video captures the entire incident.
The first few seconds of the video show cute footage of a baby seal getting back into the water. However, it rapidly went from cute to horrific when the seal attacked a boy in the ocean, trying to bite his legs as screams could be heard.
When onlookers helped the boy escapes the clutches of the seal’s mouth, one man who assisted shouted, “get out of the water”. A lady who did not immediately heed the instructions felt the consequences when she became the seal’s next target.

It is unclear as to whether or not the seal had been provoked before it turned into Clifton’s very own version of Jaws.
“Not a happy seal, someone must have done something to piss it off,” one user tweeted in response to the video.
“Yeah the video is the only reference I have. They definitely could have been toying with it,” alleged Moore who uploaded the video.

Tweeps were also unimpressed with the way in which the seal had been flung back into the water at the end of the video.
It’s a baby and it’s shocking how the man tosses it at the end. We are guests in their ocean. Silly humans
