Cape Town – A fire broke out on Saturday in the inner city of Johannesburg at the corner of Van Der Merwe and Klein streets in Hillbrow.
Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties or injuries.
City of Johannesburg public safety MMC Mgcini Tshwaku said that a fire was reported at the corner of Van Der Merwe and Klein streets around 4 pm. Authorities promptly dispatched two fire engines and a water tanker to the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the City of Johannesburg emergency management services.

The incident adds to a series of recent fires in Johannesburg, including one at the South African Revenue Service (Sars) building and a devastating fire in the Usindiso Building in August, which led to the establishment of a commission of inquiry.
Another fire was reported near the Usindiso Building shortly after, and there was a tragic incident in June where two young children were burnt beyond recognition in an apartment fire.
The frequency of these fires is raising concerns about fire safety and emergency response in the city.
