Cape Town – A fire at the Houtkoppen substation north of Johannesburg has left residents in several areas without power, with no estimated time for restoration (ERT), announced by City Power.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a jumper broke just before 8.30pm at the substation, sparking the fire shortly before load shedding restoration.
City Power operators and firefighters responded to the incident, and the fire has been extinguished, The Citizen reported.

Further investigations will determine the cause and extent of the fire, and affected customers, primarily in Block 10, will receive updates on the situation.
“Investigations will continue to determine the cause and extent of the fire. Unfortunately, there is no ETR at the moment, and affected customers, mostly from Block 10, will be updated on developments throughout,” the report quoted City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena as saying.
