Cape Town – An Eskom employee took to social media to share with the South African public how the power is switched off or load shedding, giving the public an inside glimpse of a part of the process.
The Eskom worker, whose TikTok username is mandisidyanty, uploaded a video in which he seems to be shutting off grids to the platform. On the machine, viewers can see how the lights go from green to red and orange.
‘”Load shedding stage 4 operating 11 000 volts without an arc flash suit, this is asking for trouble. It has become a norm to commit unsafe acts in the work place,” he said in the caption of the video.
Perhaps the lack of urgency surrounding putting on the arc flesh suits stems from having to switch the power off so often, in which case they might as well be wearing it all day at work.

Eskom on Saturday announced that it was implementing stage 5 load-shedding until further notice.
The power utility said this was due to unusually high demand and the breakdown of a generating unit each at Hendrina, Kendal and Kriel power stations.
