Cape Town – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Gauteng has called for the immediate closure of the Zanzou nightclub in Pretoria and the arrest of its owner following disturbing videos that allegedly show the nightclub’s security team committing human rights violations.
The videos depict men being beaten, forced to submerge their heads in water, and made to perform sexual acts with beer bottles.
EFF Provincial Chairperson Nkululeko Dunga condemned the actions as inhumane and called for legal action against those responsible, including the nightclub’s owner and manager.
“Such abhorrent behaviour cannot be tolerated in a society that prides itself on upholding human dignity and justice.
“The EFF strongly believes there is no reason whatsoever to justify the dehumanisation of other people like that. We condemn these inhumane acts and demand immediate legal action against the perpetrators,” Dunga said in a statement.
The EFF staged a protest outside the club, demanding justice for the victims.
The club’s management said that the security personnel involved in the abuse had been dismissed and that legal action was being considered.
The EFF insists on a thorough investigation and prosecution of everyone involved, including the management, to restore public confidence and uphold constitutional values.
Police are investigating multiple charges, including rape, assault, and kidnapping. The EFF also plans to report the incident to the South African Human Rights Commission.
Meanwhile, the man identified as the club’s owner, Stephane Cohen, denied involvement in the club’s operations and distanced himself from the events, calling the claims against him misleading.
