Cape Town — The attempted murder case against South African businesswoman Edwin Sodi has been struck from the court roll after the complainants withdrew.
Sodi and his estranged wife Nthateng Lerata were in court after she had laid charges against him back in 2022. However, it is believed that the two were able to find an out-of-court settlement agreement, TimesLIVE reported.
The incident that led to the charges stemmed after Lerata alleged that she and a friend were attacked by Sodi at their home in Bryanston and it was reported that he had tried to shoot them when the gun misfired.
Sodi was charged with attempted murder, assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm (GBH), and pointing of a firearm following an incident in Bryanston in 2022.
Sodi made an appearance at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and expressed that he was relieved that the time-consuming process was officially over after making more than 20 court appearances.
“It’s a relief. I am glad it’s over.,” he said.
“For the past three years, I have been here maybe 22, 23 times, so you can imagine how costly it is and the time appearing over a matter that shouldn’t have been here in the first place. I’ve got other issues to focus on, businesses to run and serious matters to focus on,” he said.
Sodi dismissed the allegations as “nonsense” and said it was clear they were never going to see and said the court came to the “right conclusion”. He added that it was clear he did no wrong when the accused withdrew the case out of their own doing.
