Cape Town – The eThekwini Municipality in South Africa has reportedly mobilised emergency teams to respond to heavy rains and tornadoes that caused extensive damage in the northern part of Durban on Tuesday.
According to IOL, the teams opened community halls to provide shelter and assistance to displaced families, including food, blankets, and mattresses.
Videos and photos of a tornado in the Bhambayi area went viral on social media.
The heavy rains continued throughout the evening, resulting in flooding in areas such as Phoenix and Verulam.

Search and Rescue teams worked to rescue families trapped in their homes, while other teams cleared debris and obstructions on roads.
Government officials, including the Human Settlements Minister and the KwaZulu-Natal Premier, planned to visit the affected community to assess the damage and ensure that adequate support was provided to affected families.
The floods also caused damage to government infrastructure, including flooded clinics and damaged water pipes.
