“The driver tried to push the truck on to the crash barrier but was unable to avoid the vehicle on the road after his brakes had failed,” The report quoted Mngomezulu as saying.
Mngomezulu also rectified that three people were killed in the horror crash involving nine vehicles.
“The occupants of one light motor vehicle were pushed beneath a truck and trapped. All three occupants succumbed to their injuries.”
Earlier reports indicated that four women died when their vehicle was “swept beneath the truck”.
“One light motor vehicle was swept beneath a truck and severely damaged, killing all four occupants. Multiple patients are being treated and extrication of the deceased is ongoing,” Medi Response said in a statement.
