Cape Town – The driver of a red Range Rover who was seen in a viral social media video driving recklessly along R573 Moloto Road has been identified as a businessman from Marble Hall in Limpopo and has been arrested, Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) said on Wednesday.
A few days ago, a video of a man who climbed halfway out of his car and steered from the vehicle’s roof went viral.
The video got the attention of the Department of Transport who then attended to the matter.
The RTMC issued a statement confirming the arrest of the reckless driver.
It is not clear when the man will have his day in court but according to the RTMC, that day will be “soon”.

“He was arrested and taken to the Kameeldrift police station in Gauteng today where he was charged with reckless driving. A video of the reckless driver emerged on social media on December 17, and it showed a man of the window of the moving vehicle along R573 Moloto Road. Investigations are continuing and the man is expected to appear in court soon,” said the RTMC.
The RTMC further took to its Twitter page to ask for the person who took the viral video to come forward and assist with the investigation as it is now at an advanced stage.
“Our investigations into this reckless driving incident is now at an advanced stage. We call on the person who recorded this video to urgently contact us on 0861 400 800 or Whatsapp 083 293 7089 or 082 551 9892,” wrote the RTMC in a statement.
