Cape Town – African National Congress (ANC) national chairperson Gwede Mantashe was booed off stage by members of the Congress of South African Trade Union (Cosatu) on Monday.
At least 2 000 members attended the Cosatu elective congress in Midrand, Johannesburg.
It was Cosatu’s 14th national elective congress.
According to Sowetan Live, Mantashe was preparing to deliver a message of support on behalf of the ANC – Cosatu’s allaince partner – when delegates started singing and wouldn’t stop.
As he went on stage, hundreds of delegates left their seats, walked to the front of the vebie and strated singing loudly, News24 reported.
“Hamba Gwede” [Go Gwede] and “asinamali” [we have no money],” were some of the slogans chanted by the delegates who believed the ANC was full of empty promises.
