Cape Town – Cape Town firefighters worked around the clock on Tuesday to rescue two construction workers who reportedly fell into a sewerage drain in Rocklands, Mitchells Plain.
One of the workers initially fell into the sewerage drain then another one jumped in to try and save his colleague, reports IOL.
The report suggested that the incident happened on Monday and the Fire Department’s communication team confirmed the scene was still active on Tuesday afternoon.
“At around 10am we received a call to go out to that area where they fell. We just received word from the teams on the ground that they are still working to get them out.
“We also know that one body was taken out,” the report quoted the communications team as saying.

One firefighter had to be taken to hospital after being exposed to the sewerage, the report said.
According to the report from pictures doing the rounds on social media, it appeared as though the workers fell down the type of drain or manhole with a circular metal cover.
In June, Khayalethu Magadla from Soweto fell into an uncovered manhole in Dlamini while he was reportedly playing with his friends.
After days into the search, the City of Johannesburg Emergency Services introduced high-tech robots in attempts to find the six-year-old boy.
The little boy’s body was eventually found in July following almost three weeks search.
