Cape Town – Former Eskom CEO André de Ruyter appears before the parliament’s standing committee on public accounts (Scopa) regarding allegations of maladministration, corruption and the sabotage of infrastructure at Eskom.
Earlier this year the former Eskom CEO alleged that “Eskom is a feeding trough for the ANC” during a television interview, exposing the corruption that he feels is ongoing between Eskom and ANC along with its officials.
De Ruyter said that when he approached a minister to report a high-level politician involved in corruption, this particular minister said, “I guess it was inevitable that it would come out anyway”.
The interview sparked public interest amid the country’s worsening energy crisis prompting Scopa to probe the allegations made by De Ruyter.
Scopa chairperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa said Ruyter and others who are implicated in the allegations would also be summoned.
On Wednesday Ruyter made his virtual appearance before Scope and is expected to shed light on his allegations and name the implicated ANC officials.
Based on De Ruyter’s testimony, MPs are expected to decide whether or not to initiate an inquiry, reported EWN.
The report said the National Assembly has already rejected a motion by the Democratic Alliance (DA) to establish an ad hoc committee to probe the corruption allegations.
