Cae Town – Pule Mabe, an ANC NEC member and former spokesperson, on Wednesday, appeared in the Palm Ridge specialised commercial crimes court alongside six co-accused on allegations of corruption related to a R27 million tender awarded to his company, Enviro-Mobi, by the Gauteng department of agriculture and rural development in March 2017.
The tender aimed to integrate waste operatives into the formal waste management economy, but a forensic report revealed that R25 million was paid to Enviro-Mobi for 200 motorised tuk-tuks that were never delivered to 58 waste pickers in Ekurhuleni, Times Live reported.
Additionally, the investigation found that Mabe had not disclosed his affiliation with Enviro-Mobi in the bid proposal and misrepresented the delivery of goods and services.
The case, which originated from a complaint filed in October 2020, highlights the ongoing scrutiny of corruption within the ANC.
