Cape Town – One of the so-called alleged instigators of the July unrest, Bonginkosi Khanyile has reportedly been issued with a warrant of arrest after failing to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court on Monday.
According to TimesLIVE, Khanyile was arrested in August in connection with the July riots that left at least 354 dead in parts of South Africa. He was released on a R5 000 bail.
Khanyile, 31, faces charges of incitement to commit public violence and contravention of the Disaster Management Act.
The Hawks previously showed the court three videos of Khanyile allegedly inciting public violence.
He had been scheduled to appear in court on Monday, but, he was a no-show, with his lawyer saying he was unable to get hold of him.

A report by EWN quoted Khanyile’s family as saying he did not deliberately miss court and was in hospital.
“Bonginkosi Khanyile could not attend court today as he woke up with severe flu symptoms. He is currently getting medical attention in hospital,” the report quoted Khanyile’s family spokesperson Philani Nduli as saying.
The court issued a warrant of arrest which was stayed until 10 January.
This means that if Khanyile appears in court on January 10 with a legitimate explanation, the warrant of arrest will fall away, News24 reported.
His case was provisionally postponed to February 8 for a pre-trial conference, the report said.
