Cape Town – A 46-year-old woman appeared at the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court this week after a matric student was reportedly doused with acid during an argument.
Reports alleged that the woman instructed her two children to douse Londiwe Thabethe, 18, with acid during a fight.
The teen is receiving medical treatment for burns on the face and upper body while the accused faces attempted murder charges, reports said.
Bongi Masekani faces two counts of murder, reported TimesLIVE.
According to the teen’s mother, Jabu Thabethe, who was hit in the face by the toxic liquid, one of the accused’s daughter had sworn Londiwe who met with the family to address the issue, the report said.
During the incident, one of the girls allegedly slapped Londiwe who then retaliated and the accused and her children allegedly joined in the fight, the report said.

“The suspect and her other child then joined in the fight. I was called and told my child was being beaten. When I got there to find out what was happening, she didn’t give me a chance to ask before another girl came with two 1-litre bottles of acid and poured it on Londi,” the report quoted Thabethe as saying.
North Coast Courier reported that Londiwe suffered burns on her face and body.
The report said pictures of the scarred teen circulated on social media following the incident that happened on Sunday, February 12.
The accused was arrested and appeared in KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday and will appear again on April 25, the report said.
Police closed the road around the court precinct as protesters wearing EFF and ANC regalia, pupils and community members protested outside the court, reported EWN.
The report said protesters sang loudly, with some carrying placards demanding justice for the teen.
