According to Times Live, the position had been vacant for the last two years, following the suspension of Khusela Diko in 2020.
Khusela was embroiled in a controversy involving her late husband Thandisizwe Diko’s involvement in companies that illegally benefited from Gauteng Department of Health PPE procurement, the report said.
She was later cleared of any wrongdoing with regard to PPE procurement, however, she was found guilty of failing to disclose her interests in certain companies.
As a result, she was not let back to her position.
Tyrone Seale was appointed on an acting basis.
“I wish to express my gratitude to Tyrone Seale for having acted in the position of spokesperson to the President since July 2020. His capable manner and dedication to the task has been widely acknowledged and is much appreciated,” Ramaphosa said.
