Umalusi gives green light for 2024 matric results release

Cape Town – South Africans are eagerly awaiting the release of the 2024 matric results, which will be announced by Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube on Monday in Randburg, Johannesburg.

The ceremony will highlight top achievers, with parents, teachers, and education departments in attendance.

Umalusi has approved the release of the results, confirming no systemic irregularities that could affect their credibility.

However, it noted concerns over isolated cheating incidents in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.

Umalusi Chairperson, Professor Yunus Ballim, said that the exams were largely conducted according to regulations, maintaining their integrity.

“The Executive Committee of UmalusiCouncil concluded that the examinations were administered largely in accordance with the regulations pertaining to the conduct administration and management of the National Senior Certificate examination.

“There were no systemic irregularities reported that might have compromised the overall credibility and integrity of the November 2024 National Senior Certificate examinations administered by the DBE EXCO of Council approves the release of the DBE November 2024 National Senior Certificate examination results.”

The results follow a legal dispute over whether they should be published, as the Information Regulator had argued that releasing them could violate students’ privacy.

A Pretoria High Court ruled in favour of publishing the results.

The 2024 results will reveal if the class has surpassed the 82.9% pass rate of the Class of 2023, which was the highest since the end of apartheid. 

Over 900,000 matric students from all nine provinces took part in the 2024 National Senior Certificate exams, including both full-time and part-time candidates.
