As reported by The Citizen, the South African Police Services (SAPS) confirmed that three people, the student included, were declared dead during the incident. SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, said two unknown suspects shot two men sitting in a parked vehicle.
“Both the men in the vehicle and one student were declared dead, while the other student was taken to the nearest hospital for medical treatment,” Nevhuhulwi said.
The university has been in contact with law enforcement agencies who are investigating the incident, and said it will be providing counselling services to the students who were travelling on the bus at the time. As of yet, the motive for the shooting remains unclear, and no arrests have been made.
