Cape Town – Police arrested two suspects in connection with the shooting of a security guard at a school in Hazyview, Mpummalanga.
The suspects aged 23 and 29 were arrested at a tavern in Shabalala after the incident, police said.
It was alleged that three armed suspects stormed into the high school in Sand River near Hazyview on Thursday, said police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala in a statement.
“They reportedly found a security guard on duty and held him up at gunpoint and demanded his firearm. When the guard informed his assailants he was not in possession of a firearm, they shot him. Nothing was stolen from the school during this incident,” said Mohlala.
The matter was reported and the guard was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Mohalala said police began an investigation into attempted murder and received a tip-off from members of the community on the whereabouts of two of the alleged three suspects.
“The suspects attempted to shoot at the police during the time of their arrest. Both suspects were shot and injured. Upon their arrest, a firearm and ammunition were confiscated. The firearm’s serial number was filled off,” said Mohlala.
The suspects remained under police guard in hospital and were expected to appear in court soon.
Meanwhile, the search for the third suspect continued.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) will conduct an investigation into the shooting of the two suspects, said Mohlala.
