Cape Town — Two off-duty bodyguards were shot and killed outside the Umhlathuze municipal offices in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), the municipality confirmed.
According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Jay Naicker, said officers are currently investigating the incident and the scene, The Citizen reported
“Information at police disposal at this stage indicates that an off-duty bodyguard shot and fatally wounded another bodyguard. The suspect was also shot and fatally wounded by another bodyguard colleague of the first victim. Investigations will be instituted to establish what could have been the motive for the shooting,” Naicker said.

According to municipality communications manager, Bongani Gina, the shooting incident happened in the early hours of Thursday morning, but no motive has been established yet. Gina extended condolences to the families of the victims too, according to IOL.
“The suspect was also shot and fatally wounded by a third bodyguard, who is a colleague of the first victim. Investigations will be instituted to establish what could have been the motive for the shooting,” he said.
“Law enforcement authorities are currently on the scene to manage the situation and investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. Our deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time,” Gina added.
NC provincial secretary, Bheki Mtolo. condemned the shooting, saying it has revealed intra-party conflict that is affecting service delivery. He also called on KZN police commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi to include ballistic experts in the investigation.
“They must do spot examinations of cartridges found in the crime scene. We have no doubt that the evidence gathered will unearth chief warmongers,” he said.
