Cape Town – Two Grade 12 pupils were reportedly hacked to death with an axe in Ngwangwane Village, KwaZulu-Natal, before their bodies were dismembered over the weekend.
In a statement, KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC, Mrs Nonhlanhla Khoza said that the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday while the girls were in their rented house.
A man in his 20s entered the girls’ house and hacked them to death before dismembering their bodies.
One girl’s body was found in the house, while the second one was found 5km away from the scene.

The suspect was apprehended on Sunday afternoon and brought back to the scene on Monday to show the police where he dumped one of the victims.
However, during the pointing out, the suspect jumped into the nearby river and swam across it in a bid to escape.
“Police had to call for back-up from the dog unit, who traced the suspect and caught him hiding at a St Johns Apostolic Faith Mission church house,” said Khoza.
“We are in pain that these young women had to die like this. The attack on defenseless learners is totally abhorrent and a reflection of the worst form of criminality and decline of morals. It is very painful that we start Women’s Month with such a horrific incident,” said Khoza.
