Gauteng – A truck driver was declared dead on the scene after two heavy motor vehicles were involved in a collision on the N14 Diepsloot on Tuesday morning.
According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst, Netcare paramedics responded to a collision on the N14.
“It is believed that one of the trucks transporting scrap metal had broken down when a second truck transporting chicken waste slammed into the rear of the first truck,” Herbst said.
One of the drivers lost their life during the collision.
“When medics arrived on scene they found that the driver of the rear truck showed no signs of life and was sadly declared deceased on the scene by Gauteng EMS,” Herbst added.
A heavy-rig tow truck was reportedly used to separate the two trucks, allowing the Johannesburg Fire and Rescue services to use hydraulic rescue tools to free the driver trapped in the mangled remains.
Herbst added that the driver of the first truck was not injured.
Circumstances leading up to the incident will be investigated by the relevant authorities.
