Cape Town – A toddler featured in a viral social media video, allegedly being subjected to abuse by his mother, has reportedly been successfully rescued and relocated to a secure environment.
The distressing video, which gained widespread attention on social media this week, allegedly displays the toddler’s mother kicking and pressing her foot on his neck while he is defenceless on the ground.
According to Times Live, the Gauteng department of social development swiftly intervened to ensure the child’s safety and protection.
The child was placed in a shelter and received a full health assessment to determine the extent of his injuries.
MEC Mbali Hlophe said the incident is being investigated as a case of child abuse, with a court case scheduled for Thursday.
“I can confirm we have placed him in safe care in one of our shelters where he’s in the warm embrace of our professional childcare workers,” the report quoted Hlophe as saying.
