Cape Town – Khayelitsha community is reportedly reeling in shock following the death of a 23-year-old man allegedly at the hands of three teenage girls.
According to reports, Zolani Toyana was allegedly stabbed by the girls he was drinking with when he reportedly broke a bottle of gin.
The incident was reported to have happened on Saturday and no arrests had been made even although the suspect were allegedly known to the victims, reports said.
According to Toyana’s friend, he was in the company of five girls at a local tavern but two of the girls left and Toyana was left with three and continued drinking, reports City Press.
He said that the trouble started when the girls left without telling Zolani and took the alcohol with, the report said.
“When he realised they had left the tavern, he went after them. Apparently, he wanted to leave with one of the girls, but they refused. That’s when he took the bottle of alcohol, claiming that he had bought it, and he broke it.
“One of the girls was heard saying he was disrespecting them and they allegedly stabbed him in the neck and stomach with the bottle neck. They then pelted him with stones,” the friend was quoted saying in the report.
The friend alleged that although the suspects confessed to killing him when they were cornered by community members, they were still not arrested, the report said.
IOL reported that residents and Toyana’s friends went to Lingelethu police station on Tuesday to demand the arrest of the alleged killers.
According to police spokesperson Wesley Twigg, Khayelitsha police registered a murder case after the death of a 23-year-old man on Sunday at about 05.15, the report said.
The victim was found with stab wounds and was declared dead by medical personnel, said Twigg.
Suspects were yet to be arrested, the report said.
