Three suspects in Lusikisiki massacre abandon bail applications

All four men are charged with 18 counts of murder and one count of possession of unlicensed firearms. NPA spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, said Ndende and Hinsta had been arrested in Port Shepstone, while Abi was arrested in East London on Wednesday, while Myekethe was arrested on 7 October at his home in Lusikisiki.

Tyali said Abi has a 2012 attempted murder conviction that he has seven years imprisonment, while Hintsa told the court that he had a previous conviction for drug possession. He was handed a suspended sentence of three years.

Myekethe also faces two previous convictions for escaping from lawful custody and murder. The case has been postponed to 26 November for further investigations.

Tyali also said two others were arrested in possession of four firearms suspected to have been used during the Lusikisiki attack and appeared in the Flagsraff Magistrate’s Court.

“They face four counts of unlawful possession of three AK47 assault rifles and a Steyr 243 riffle as well as possession of 82 live rounds of ammunition,” Tyali said,
