Cape Town — Three South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) adminstrators were arrested on Friday morning following a raid on the agency’s offices in Johannesburg.
Police were at the offices in a wider crackdown operation following the arrest of four suspects in Soweto last month who were caught using fraudulent SASSA cards to withdraw money at a Shoprite. Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said police were looking for seven officials, including the manager of the SASSA office, The Citizen reported.

“In February, we arrested four suspects. We continued our investigations and discovered that they were working with some SASSA employees in this area. We are looking for seven of them, linked to the ones arrested in February. Today, we only found three, but we still have others we seek. Unfortunately, we are told they are still on leave,” he explained.
Masondo said police were hoping to have eleven suspects arrested but he believed there was a much bigger syndicate. Masondo said the alleged kingpin was still at large.
