Three men brought in for questioning after two Gauteng women found dead in mine shaft

Cape Town — Police in Gauteng have brought three men in for questioning following the tragic murder of a Gauteng mother and daughter who were found in a mine shaft.

Hester Flemming (52) and her mother, Cecilia Flemming (82) went missing after they were victims of a farm attack in the early hours of Saturday morning.  Security Services, Mike Bolhuis, reported that the house had been ransacked and the suspects fled with two vehicles after ransacking the house.

In another statement, Mike Bolhuis said numerous teams including SAPS, JMPD, Security companies, family and friends had been working tirelessly to look for the two women.

“The search continued into Monday, 28 October 2024, and with deep sadness, SSS must inform the public that Ms. Hester Flemming and Ms. Cecilia Johanna Flemming were found deceased today in an opencast mine in Eikenhof. The SAPS search and rescue team is currently on the scene, working to recover the bodies,” it said.

According to IOL, Gauteng police have taken three men in for questioning for the kidnapping and murder of Hester and Cecilia. Police spokesperson, Mavela Masondo, said cases of murder have been opened at De Deur Police Station.
“One suspect was arrested after he was found in possession of some of the items that were taken during the house robbery. He appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 28 October 2024 and has been remanded in custody.”

Masondo confirmed that three more men have no been taken in for questioning.
