Kenton on Sea – The South African Police Service with assistance from NSRI and others continue the Search and Recovery operation of the fourth body, after four children were allegedly swept out to sea and disappeared at the Kariega beach in Kenton on Sea on New Year’s Day.
According to South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, police and the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) responded to a complaint of a drowning in progress involving four children at Kariega beach in Kenton On Sea.
“2 young females had been washed onto the beach where bystander Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation efforts were in progress,” the NSRI said in a statement.
Extensive CPR efforts were reportedly underway in an attempt to save both females. While those efforts were in progress, another female who was in difficulty in the surf was noticed.
“NSRI Port Alfred rescue swimmers recovered the girl from the beach where CPER commenced on that female.
“After all efforts to resuscitate the 3 females, aged between 10 and 14, were exhausted sadly they were declared deceased,” the NSRI added.
Local residents then confirmed that a 9 year old male was missing in the surf.
“The search for the fourth victim (a nine-year-old boy) is continuing. The identities of the three deceased children aged between 11 and 12 years, will be released on completion of the formal identification process. Police opened inquest dockets for further investigation,” SAPS said in a statement.
