Cape Town – Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of an eight-year-old girl in August.
One of the accused is reportedly a close relative of the victim.
The child went missing after her mother sent her to a nearby spaza shop in the Vhembe District of Limpopo on August 5.
When the child didn’t return, the family initiated a search and eventually reported her disappearance to the police.
Two weeks later, the mother received a message with information about her child’s whereabouts, leading to the involvement of the police.
“The Police through investigation managed to trace the sender of message who cooperated in terms of providing information regarding the missing child.
“The sender of the message’s statement was obtained, which led to the arrest of three suspects on different dates.
“The first suspect was arrested on Wednesday 23 August 2023, second suspect was arrested on Friday, 25 August 2023 and the third one was arrested on Monday, 28 August 2023 and it turned out that he is a very close family member of the child,” police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said.
Police are still searching for the child’s body.
