Cape Town – The father of six-year-old Khayalethu Magadla, who fell into an uncovered manhole in Dlamini, Soweto on June 12 while playing with friends, has expressed his displeasure over the way he was treated by the police when his son first disappeared.
According to The South African, Kholekile Magadla spoke at his son’s memorial service on Friday.
Magadla said he received little help from the Moroka Police Station on the day he went to report his son missing and even during the weeks-long search operation.
“Things that I saw during the search hurt me; in front of my eyes, I saw officials sent to swim having to coerce each other. I ended up saying, ‘let me go in myself since you’re pushing each other’,” the report quoted Magadla as saying.

The memorial was made possible by local businesses and community members who made donations, the report said.
According to EWN, Khayalethu’s memorial service took place at the very park – just a stone’s throw away from his home.
Surrounded by family, friends and community members, Khayalethu’s parents and grandparents took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the manhole that led to his demise, the report said.
Khayalethu’s body was found in a split chamber near the Eldorado Park Cemetery on Saturday, three weeks after he went missing.
