Cape Town – The Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court is expected to deliver its verdict on Monday to determine whether Dr Nandipha Magudumana will be granted bail or remain in custody.
Magudumana was arrested in connection with the escape of convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester.
Bester had faked his death at the Mangaung Correctional Centre and escaped with the alleged assistance of Magudumana.
She claims to have been kidnapped by Bester and forced into a car before they were arrested in Arusha, Tanzania.
The State alleges that Magudumana was a central figure in planning Bester’s escape and has accused her of multiple charges, including fraud, violating a body, corruption, arson, and assisting an inmate to escape.
State Prosecutor advocate Sello Matlhoko opposes her release on bail, citing her status as a flight risk and her abandonment of her daughters to be with Bester.
Several other individuals have also been implicated in Bester’s escape but were granted bail.
