Cape Town – A Zimbabwean national, Zanda Moyo, 31, appeared for the first time in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Tuesday in connection with aiding rapist and murderer Thabo Bester’s escape from prison.
Moyo was arrested in Johannesburg on Sunday.
He is now the 9th suspect in the matter.
Moyo is facing charges of violating a body, assisting an inmate to escape and fraud.

According to SABC News, it’s alleged that Moyo and Bester’s partner Dr Nandipha Magudumana purported that the unclaimed and unidentified body in the Bloemfontein mortuary was Moyo’s brother, Themba Ndlovu, who was later found to be Katlego Bereng.
Moyo appeared without legal representation and opted for an isiZulu translator.
Moyo’s name had already been uttered in the court before his appearance by the police officer who testified for the State during the bail applications of five of the accused, The South African reported.
The officer, who could not be named, said Magudumana pretended that the body she claimed was that of her brother’s child, Zanda Moyo. She said she was helping arrange the funeral, the report said.
The matter has been postponed to the 20th of June for bail.
Moyo will appear alongside Magudumana, Thabo Bester and former G4S employees who have also been implicated.
Police say they haven’t ruled out the possibility of more arrests.
