Cape Town – Thabo Bester, a convicted killer and rapist, and his accomplice, disgraced doctor Nandipha Magudumana, will appear in the Bloemfontein High Court on Wednesday.
They, along with seven others, are accused of orchestrating Bester’s escape from Mangaung correctional facility in May 2022.
Among the accused are Magudumana’s father and some prison staff.

Bester and Magudumana were arrested in Tanzania last year.
The trial has faced delays due to Bester’s changing of legal representatives.
The State anticipates the trial to last at least six months, with charges including fraud, aiding a prison escape, and corpse tampering.
