Cape Town – The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called on the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) to revoke the socialite doctor and girlfriend of convicted murderer and “Facebook rapist” Thabo Bester, Dr Nandipha Magudumana’s practising licence.
Reports indicated that Magudumana’s licence to practise was suspended by the HPCSA due to her failure to pay annual fees.
HPCSA said Magudumana had been suspended “in terms of Section 19A(1)(b) of the Health Professions Act for failure to pay annual fees when they were due on 1 April 2021”.
According to a search of the organisation’s website, Magudumana studied medicine at Wits University in 2013. She was not currently registered with the HPCSA, the organisation said.
The DA on Thursday moved to call on the HPCSA to probe her suitability to hold a practicing licence.

“The Democratic Alliance is calling for the Health Professions Council to investigate the suitability of her licence in light of recent revelations with the intention to revoke it.
“This action must be taken to demonstrate that no one is above the law and to ensure the safety and well-being of patients who may come into contact with her in the future,” said DA MP Michele Clarke.
Clarke said the party will write to Health Minister Dr Joe Phaahla to address the issue.
Magudumana is expected to reappear in the Bloemfontein magistrate’s court on 16 May after her bail hearing was halted on Thursday.
Her attorney told the court there is material evidence which is crucial in her matter.
Magudumana appeared alongside five former G4S employees – two of whom were arrested last week.
They are accused of assisting Bester in his audacious prison escape.
