Cape Town – The teenager arrested for the murder of Western Cape magistrate, Romay van Rooyen, reportedly attended the deceased’s funeral.
Van Rooyen was found dead in her bedroom at her house in Red Roman Street, Marina da Gama on Saturday, September 10.
Her family reportedly raised the alarm after she failed to collect her nephew in Maitland as planned and her cellphone was on voicemail.
It was alleged that she was strangled and her vehicle was stolen and later found in Mitchells Plain.
An 18-year-old was reportedly arrested by the Hawks at his home in Mitchells Plain on Tuesday three days after Van Rooyen was laid to rest.
He was expected to appear at the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, September 29.

According to News24, the teenager was allegedly among the mourners who attended the funeral on Saturday.
The report alleged that there was no sign of forced entry into the deceased’s house, but one door was found to be unlocked.
During the week, she lived in the West Coast town of Langebaan to be close to work and returned to Cape Town over weekends.
The family did not believe that robbery was the motive of Van Rooyen’s murder and that she had no security concerns, the report said.
IOL reported that hundreds of mourners filled Lentegeur New Apostolic church in Mitchells Plain to bid her farewell.
“She was at the peak of her career when she was murdered, but what we can say is that she made a huge contribution. She was a justice warrior.” the report quoted colleague Advocate Evadne Kortjie.
