Cape Town – The Northern Cape High Court on Saturday sentenced a 17-year-old boy to 18 years in prison after he allegedly raped, murdered and robbed an 81-year-old pensioner of her belongings.
In a statement, police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the teenager committed the gruesome act in July 2021.
He was kept in custody until the trial was finalised.

“In July 2021 the accused accosted a 81-year-old elderly woman, at her home in Cassel village where he raped, murdered and robbed her of her belongings. The accused was arrested and the investigating officer Lieutenant Colonel Doggy Magugu successfully opposed bail, and he was kept in police custody until the finalisation of trial,” said Tawana.
The teenager was found guilty and charged with three counts by the Northern Cape High Court including robbery aggravating, murder and rape.
“The sentences were ordered to run concurrently.
The accused will serve effective 18 years imprisonment,” Tawana said.
