Cape Town – The Gauteng Department of Education has suspended a teacher from Fred Norman Secondary School in Ennerdale, Grasmere, following an altercation with a learner’s grandmother on Friday.
The incident was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media.
In the video, believed to have been taken by the teacher, the teacher can be heard swearing at the grandmother multiple times before asking another learner to beat her up.
“You will come and teach that trashy child of yours,” the teacher can be heard saying in the video.

Following the incident, the provincial department of education issued a statement saying that it was investigating and that the teacher had been suspended until further notice.

“We have launched an investigation into circumstances sarounding this incident and, as such, the outcome will be communicated in due course.
“Accordingly, the affected educator has been precautionarily removed from the school until further notice. We also implore parents to use appropriate channels to address their grievances rather than resorting to other platforms,” said the department.
