Cape Town – The taxi association Santaco has ended its stayaway in the Western Cape after negotiations with the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape government.
The authorities presented a reasonable proposal during talks, leading to the decision to call off the strike.
“It is with profound relief that we announce the immediate cessation of the stayaway. This comes after painstaking deliberations and immense pressure on all parties involved,” Santaco said in a statement on Thursday night.
The stayaway had been ongoing for seven days and had resulted in violent incidents, including five deaths.
