Cape Town – Liquidator advocate Vaughn Victor has reportedly survived an assassination attempt.
Victor, who is the liquidator for Tariomix and Forever Diamonds & Gold (FDG), owned by diamond merchant Louis Liebenberg, was shot at while travelling alone to Pretoria from OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday night, New24 reported.
The report quoted Netwerk24 as saying he returned fire and remained unharmed.
Tariomix had been placed under provisional liquidation due to complaints from investors who had not received their promised payouts, according to Fin24.
Victor had recently obtained an interim injunction against Liebenberg and his associates, claiming defamation, threats, intimidation, and death threats. He had also been involved in the liquidation of the bitcoin Ponzi scheme Mirror Trading International (MTI), said the report.
The attack on Victor follows the murder of insolvency practitioner Cloete Murray and his son Thomas in March.
The motive behind the attack on Victor remains unknown.
Liebenberg is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the shooters and is willing to pay for an independent investigation into the incident, said the report.
