Cape Town – Police in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga, are on the lookout for suspects involved in a robbery targeting a taxi transporting foreign nationals to Mozambique.
The incident occurred in Garelane on Friday night.
The Mozambican taxi, carrying 16 passengers, was en route to Mozambique when the driver noticed flashing lights from a vehicle behind them.
“The driver continued driving until he reached a filling station where he thought it was safe to stop. However, the vehicle trailing them stopped at the fuel station and four armed males alighted,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.
One suspect fired a shot and robbed the taxi driver.
“The suspects snatched a bag full of passengers’ passports and cash paid by the commuters. The suspects also robbed passengers of their cellphones,” Mohlala said.
There were no reported injuries, and the suspects fled the scene.
A police spokesperson said that a robbery case has been opened, and a manhunt is underway for the perpetrators.
