Cape Town – A 40-year-old foreign national was arrested at the Beitbridge Port of Entry on December 31, 2024, after attempting to cross into Zimbabwe with a 2023 BMW G70, 7 Series valued at over R2 million, suspected to be stolen.
According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Thakeng, the suspect presented a South African passport when stopped by authorities around 20:10. Preliminary investigations revealed that the luxury vehicle was flagged as wanted by a South African bank.
“The driver alleged that the real owner of the vehicle would be flying to South Africa on January 1, 2025,” Thakeng said.

The suspect was charged with possession of a suspected stolen vehicle and providing fraudulent documents to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
The vehicle was seized, and the suspect is scheduled to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on January 3, 2025.
Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the officers for their vigilance during the festive season.
The investigation is ongoing.
