Cape Town – Police officers in KwaZulu-Natal had an unusual encounter when they discovered a 3.3-metre crocodile behind their station building on Wednesday.
They called IPSS Search and Rescue for assistance, and a team was dispatched to capture the large adult crocodile.
A local expert, Ashton Musgrave, was also called in to assist.
“IPSS Search and Rescue is used to receiving strange calls, but last night [Wednesday] has to be one of the best.
“A team responded to the station to investigate and found a large adult crocodile. Being a unique situation, the decision was made to call for assistance from a local, Ashton Musgrave, who has experience in safely capturing crocodiles,” Times Live quoted IPSS spokesperson Samantha Meyrick as saying.
The crocodile was safely captured and transported on a bakkie.
“The crocodile was safely captured and loaded onto the back of a waiting vehicle.
“The crocodile has measured in at a massive 3.3 metres,” Dylan Meyrick from IPSS Search and Rescue said, according to IOL.
Following consultations with the appropriate authorities, it was decided that the crocodile would be relocated to the Hluhluwe area.
It is suspected that the reptile had likely travelled from the nearby Tugela River.
