Cape Town – An 11-year-old South African boy from Alexandra in Gauteng, Kabelo Masalesa reportedly drowned in Palestine on Saturday while at a soccer tournament with other young South African players.
According to News24, Kabelo drowned on Saturday but his body was discovered on Sunday.
He was among the 18 young players and 10 support staff who travelled to Palestine for the tournament.
They left South Africa last week and were scheduled to return on Thursday.

The manner in which the incident occurred remained unknown.
“According to what we got, he drowned after the game. They won 2-1. And I think after the celebration something went wrong there. But the family is not looking much on the whole issue. We are broken beyond measure and saddened by this. But we are comforted by Minister Mthethwa as they assist us in getting his mortal remains back as soon as possible,” the report quoted Kabelo’s uncle Alfred Mamabolo as saying.
Phathutshedzo Maseko, Kabelo’s coach described him as a bubbly child who was always smiling and encouraging his team members.
The matter was being investigated by Palestine authorities.
