Cape Town – South Africa has recorded a total of 3 446 532 Covid-19 infections, with 12 979 new cases identified in the past 24 hours, the National Department of Health said on Thursday.
This increase represents a 28.1% positivity rate after 46 149 tests were conducted.
A further 126 Covid-19 related deaths were reported, bringing the total fatalities to 91 061 since the discovery of the virus in the country.
“As of today the cumulative number of #COVID19 cases identified in SA is 3 446 532 with 12 979 new cases reported. Today 126 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 91 061 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 159 143 with a recovery rate of 91,7%,” the department said in a statement.

KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 3 461 new cases, followed by Western Cape (3 327), and Gauteng (2 249).
Northern Cape continued to account for the least cases, with 0nly 346 new cases.
