Cape Town – South Africa recorded 972 new Covid-19 infections on Monday after 17 697 tests were conducted, said the National Institute For Communicable Diseases (NICD).
This increase represents a positivity rate of 5.5%.
A further 13 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 99 725.
“17 697 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 972 new cases, representing a 5.5% positivity rate. Today @HealthZA reports 13 deaths; of these 0 occurred in the past 24–48 hours. Total fatalities are 99 725 to date,” NICD said in a statement.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic in the country is 3 694 504.
The majority of cases reported in the last 24 hours were from Gauteng (37%), followed by Western Cape (25%), and KwaZulu-Natal (17%).
