Cape Town – South Africa recorded 9 020 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the country’s cumulative number of Covid-19 cases to 3 433 554, the National Department of Health said on Wednesday.
A total number of 34 753 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 26%.
The department said 81 deaths were reported, bringing the total to 90 935 deaths since the virus’s outbreak in March last year.
“As of today the cumulative number of #COVID19 cases identified in SA is 3 433 554 with 9 020 new cases reported. Today 81 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 90 935 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 3 145 543 with a recovery rate of 91,6%,” the department said in a statement.

KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 2 522 new cases, followed by Western Cape (1 961), and Gauteng (1 859).
Northern Cape continued to account for the least cases with 0nly 193 new cases in the past 24 hours.
